Double Feature: Halloween (Oct 2026)

Hosting Double Feature nights is a favorite activity of mine and, thanks to compulsively buying DVDs throughout my 20s, it's a pretty affordable alternative to a nerdy night out. So when nerd culture is getting a little pricey, try out one of our Double Feature nights!

In each one of these posts you will find:

• A theme (with dress code)

• Two movies and where to watch them

• A menu of suggested foods to serve

• Activities to enjoy before/during/after the films

• A YouTube playlist of trailers for other films that fit the theme

• Trailers for the following month's Double Feature theme

• A Tidal playlist for pre/post-show tunes

October 2026 - Halloween

It's officially spooky season so this month's theme is Halloween! Since not all nerds are horror girlies, we're going with two films that still fit the spooky bill but bring a little something besides gore and jump scares to the table: Zombieland and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Nothing like a late-night double feature picture show!

Where to Watch

Zombieland is on Netflix and RHPS is on Paramount+ if you don't have physical copies. Looking to get back into physical media? Our favorite DVD store is CD Outlet in Norwood, PA.

Menu

Looking to Dr. Frank-N-Furter for inspiration, the main course for this evening is meatloaf. You can go with a regular meatloaf, or reimagine these spinach and feta turkey burgers as meatloaf. I'd throw some mashed potatoes on the side, not really due to the theme but I think there's a law requiring mashed potatoes to accompany meatloaf. Our appetizer for the evening is pigs in a blanket as they contain an essential ingredient when making a man with blonde hair and a tan. For dessert, we're doing Tastykakes instead of Zombieland's Twinkies because Tastykakes are better.

Activities

Prepare for the evening's second film by having everyone build their own audience participation kits for RHPS. Each kit needs:

• Rice

• Newspaper

• Water pistol/something that squirts water

• Small flashlight/lighter

• Rubber gloves

• Noise makers

• Confetti

• Toilet paper

• Toast

• Party hat

• Bell

• Cards

• A copy of the partici........pation script

Suggested Films

Here is a YouTube playlist with three other movies that could fit this theme. In this playlist, you'll see trailers for Hocus Pocus, The Corpse Bride, and Ghostbusters. You could swap one or two of these in for the above films, or show these trailers in between the other movies. Your call!

Previews of Coming Attractions

At the end of the evening, give your audience a taste of what's next! In November, we'll be going nuts - Peanuts - with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Enjoy the trailers and a little bonus short here.

Pre/Post-Show Vibes

Here's a Tidal playlist of spooky songs to enjoy before or after your screenings!
